Grief has engulfed Ebusiloli Senior School in Emuhaya Constituency, Vihiga County, following the sudden death of a Form Three student while she was returning to school.
The student, identified as Careen Asiko, a Form 3 West learner, reportedly collapsed at Emukhuyu after collecting her school fees as she made her way back to the institution.
Careen was described by fellow students and members of the school community as a humble, bright and hardworking learner.
Good Samaritans who witnessed the incident rushed her to Bunyore Hospital in an attempt to save her life. However, she was pronounced dead on arrival at the health facility.
School community plunged into mourning
Her sudden death has left her family, classmates, teachers and residents of the Emanyonyi and Ebusiloli areas in shock and mourning.
The circumstances surrounding her sudden collapse and death were not immediately clear.
Messages of condolence have continued to reach the bereaved family as the school community comes to terms with the loss of the young learner.
Residents, friends and well-wishers have been urged to stand with the family and keep them, together with Careen’s classmates and teachers, in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult period.

The family is expected to announce funeral arrangements and details of her final send-off in due course.
