- The Ministry of Education has invited junior and senior schools nationwide to participate in a new national schools handbook.
- The publication will highlight CBE pathways, career readiness opportunities and institutional information to guide learners, parents and educators.
- Schools have been asked to provide accurate information and showcase their strengths, achievements and alignment with CBE pathways.
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has invited all junior and senior schools across the country to participate in the development of the Comprehensive Handbook for Accredited Schools in Kenya, which it describes as the first national publication of its kind.
In a circular dated August 21, 2026, addressed to all County Directors of Education and Sub-County Directors of Education, Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa said the handbook will provide a national reference point for learners, educators, parents and other education stakeholders.
“The Ministry of Education is pleased to inform you of the development of the Comprehensive Handbook for Accredited Schools in Kenya, a first-ever national publication endorsed by the Ministry,” Ololtuaa said.
He added: “This handbook will serve as a legacy reference for learners, educators, and stakeholders across the country.”
Focus on CBE pathways and careers
According to the Ministry, the handbook will highlight the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBE), including its pathways and career readiness opportunities extending to university education.
It will also provide visibility for accredited schools and institutions while promoting transparency and empowerment within the education sector.
The Ministry says the publication is intended to become a trusted national resource through which learners, parents and other stakeholders can obtain structured information about educational progression.
The handbook comes as Kenya continues implementing competency-based education across basic education, including the transition from junior to senior school where learners pursue pathways aligned with their interests, abilities and career aspirations.
The Ministry has asked all junior and senior schools to actively participate in the initiative.
“Your school’s inclusion will showcase your institution’s role in nurturing learners through CBE pathways,” the circular states.
The Ministry further says participation will provide learners with clearer guidance on career readiness and progression while contributing to what it describes as a national legacy project intended to remain a reference for generations.
Schools asked to provide accurate information
Pinkline Media Ltd has been authorised, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, to develop and coordinate the handbook.
According to the circular, the company will liaise directly with schools to collect institutional information, artwork and other participation details required for the publication.
School heads have consequently been directed to cooperate with the project team during visits and ensure that the institutional information they provide is accurate.
The schools are also expected to ensure their contributions demonstrate their strengths and achievements as well as their alignment with CBE pathways.
“School heads are requested to cooperate with the project team during visits and provide accurate institutional data,” the Ministry says.
It adds: “Ensure your school’s contribution highlights its strengths, achievements, and alignment with CBE pathways.”
Advertorial opportunities for schools
Besides institutional information, participating schools will have opportunities to increase their visibility through advertorial content in the handbook.
“Participation will also include advertorial opportunities to enhance visibility,” the circular states.
The Ministry says the initiative is expected to contribute to strengthening the country’s education system while helping learners prepare for future careers.
“The Ministry underscores the importance of this initiative in strengthening Kenya’s education system and preparing learners for future careers,” Ololtuaa said.
