Politicians, parents and members of the local community have been urged to respect the autonomy of school management and allow education institutions to operate without undue interference.
Kakamega KUPPET Vice Chairperson Wilbrodah Shinanda said political and community interference in school affairs can undermine effective administration, discipline and the delivery of quality education. She urged parents and other stakeholders to channel their concerns through established school management structures instead of directly interfering with administrative decisions, stressing that school heads and management committees should be given the necessary space to discharge their responsibilities professionally, while parents and the community continue to play their legitimate roles in supporting learners and schools.

“Politicians, the local community and parents should avoid interfering in matters of school management,” Shinanda said, stressing the importance of respecting institutional structures and professional decision-making. She noted that constructive engagement among school administrators, teachers, parents and the wider community remains essential in addressing challenges affecting schools.
Shinanda further called for cooperation among education stakeholders to create a conducive environment for teachers and learners, saying unnecessary interference could create conflicts and negatively affect learning outcomes. Her remarks come amid growing concerns over external influence in the management of schools, with education stakeholders calling for stronger adherence to established governance structures.
