President William Ruto has announced a Ksh1.2 billion allocation for the construction of a new university in Emurua Dikirr, Narok County, to honour late MP Johana Ngeno and expand access to higher education while creating jobs and boosting economic development in the region.
Ruto announced on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, while addressing residents at Mamboleo Modern Market, saying the institution would expand access to higher education, create employment and spur economic development in the region.
The President said the proposed university would be named after Ngeno, who served as the area Member of Parliament before his death.
“Hiyo university ya Emurua Dikirr, leo mimi nimewaletea bilioni moja na laki mbili ya kujenga university ya Emurua Dikirr ambayo itaitwa kwa jina ya ndugu yetu Johanna Ng’eno,” Ruto said.
He said the project followed a request by residents of Emurua Dikirr for the establishment of a university in the constituency and confirmed that the government was ready to support its construction.

Ruto said the institution would benefit learners from the constituency, Narok County and other parts of the country by increasing opportunities for university education closer to their homes.
“Hiyo university ambayo mimi naenda kujenga pale, itasaidia watoto wa hapa Emurua Dikirr, Narok na Kenya,” the head of state added.
The President also announced that Ksh180 million had been set aside to construct student hostels linked to the area’s Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) facilities.
The investments are expected to strengthen education infrastructure in Emurua Dikirr while supporting local economic activity through construction, employment and increased demand for goods and services.
