Dr. Livanze Mwani of Kakamega has been elected the new KUPPET Western Region Chairman, narrowly beating fellow Kakamega contestant Wechuli Wakhu by two votes in a tightly fought race held on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Mwani polled 28 votes against Wakhu’s 26 to clinch the region’s top seat, in an election that drew contestants from Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga and Busia counties and set the stage for a new leadership team at the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers’ Western Region branch.

Yoham Okoro secured the Vice Chairman seat with 33 votes, comfortably ahead of Kevin Obilo’s 21, while Maende Namutala claimed the Treasurer’s post with 35 votes against Faith Wafula of Bungoma, who managed 19.
