Machakos Primary, JSS strike gold at national music

Machakos Junior Secondary School and Machakos Primary School have once again excelled at the Kenya National Music Festivals after winning top honours in their respective categories.
The victories have earned Machakos JSS a coveted place at the 2026 State Gala to be hosted by President William Ruto.
The achievements reinforce the institution’s growing reputation as a national powerhouse in performing arts.

Machakos Junior Secondary School’s Folk Song Class 380 team emerged top for the third consecutive year at the 2026 Kenya National Music Festivals held at Kibabii University in Bungoma County, earning a place at the State Gala to be hosted by the President later this month.

Their schoolmates at Machakos Primary School also emerged first in the Kamba Traditional Kilumi Dance category for the second consecutive year.

The school represented the Eastern Region with seven items at the national competition.

School celebrates outstanding achievement

Speaking to parents after the teams returned from Bungoma, an elated Head of Institution (HoI), Mr. Derrick Mutunga, said the learners had made the school proud by emerging victorious.

“We have the opportunity to meet the President after emerging position one. We are go

ing back to Kibabii. Class 380 will perform at the State Gala, which is for the ‘who is who’ in the country, and Machakos is among the who is who,” said Mr. Mutunga.
