The crowds are largely made up of young people, many believed to be students, recent school leavers and college graduates, who have temporarily abandoned their normal routines to join the rush.
Their arrival has raised concern among education stakeholders and community leaders, who fear the excitement surrounding the reported discovery could disrupt learning and divert young people from their educational and career aspirations.

Videos circulating widely on social media show hundreds of people scattered across an open field, digging the ground using hoes, jembes, shovels and other rudimentary tools.
