Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa has called on schools, coaches and sports officials to uphold integrity, fairness and learner safety as the 2026 Term Two National School Games officially begin at M-PESA Foundation Academy in Thika, Kiambu County.
Speaking during the official opening ceremony, Ololtuaa said school sports remain a vital component of Kenya’s education system, providing learners with opportunities to develop their talents while nurturing discipline, teamwork, resilience, leadership and good character.
He noted that the championships are not only about winning medals but also about promoting values that shape responsible and well-rounded citizens.
The Principal Secretary urged all participating schools and officials to strictly observe the rules and regulations governing the competition.
He emphasized the importance of proper learner verification through the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS), saying the exercise is critical in ensuring that only eligible students participate and that the integrity of the games is protected.
Ololtuaa also stressed the need to prioritize the safety, welfare and well-being of every learner throughout the championships.
He called on coaches, referees, teachers and organizers to work together to create a safe and supportive environment that allows participants to compete with confidence and dignity.
The national championships have brought together top-performing schools from across Kenya to compete in football, volleyball, basketball, rugby, hockey, athletics and other disciplines.

The event continues to serve as a platform for identifying and nurturing future sporting stars while fostering national unity, healthy competition and lasting friendships among learners from different regions.
