- Makueni MP Susan Kiamba has challenged school principals to pursue visionary ideas that transform learning institutions.
- She praised St Martin Kathonzweni Boys’ Principal Patrick Wambua for turning his vision into reality through the acquisition of a new school bus.
- The legislator also urged learners to uphold discipline, apply for bursaries and maintain high self-esteem.
Makueni Constituency MP Susan Kiamba has called upon principals and leaders in general to always have intellectual dreams that result in development.
Speaking during the official launch of St Martin Kathonzweni Boys’ new school bus, Kiamba lauded Principal Patrick Wambua for transforming the school and having a vision that has been realised through the purchase and commissioning of the bus.
“You know, there are people who don’t dream, and when they do, they dream bad dreams. I am proud of your principal and many other like-minded principals. Thank you, Principal, for a good dream which has been actualised,” said Kiamba.
She encouraged learners to continue practising patience and understanding, saying these virtues would help them achieve their future aspirations. She added that the school was among the few that did not experience unrest when other schools recently faced student strikes.
The MP thanked the government for ensuring every school has quality teachers, adding that she believes in giving credit where it is due despite serving in the opposition.
She also called upon principals to encourage learners to apply for bursaries, noting that bursaries are awarded to individual learners rather than institutions.
“Here, we have fully sponsored three students, and next term we are adding a needy Grade 10 learner on a full scholarship. We give bursaries to learners, not schools. Encourage them to apply for bursaries so that the school can benefit as well,” Kiamba said.
Principal celebrates milestone
Kiamba added that now that the students have an additional school bus, they should conduct themselves with dignity and distinction.
“You should be distinct in what you do always. Learn to walk with purpose. Walking is not just a matter of exchanging legs. Be distinct always. When you define who you are, make sure nobody defines you differently. You should have high self-esteem,” she added.

Principal Patrick Wambua described the launch as a historic moment in which a long-held dream had been realised.
He said the bus would be used to transport students to symposiums, games and other school activities, as well as generate additional income for the school through hiring services.
