Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo has pledged continued support for teachers’ welfare and professional growth following high‑level consultative talks with officials of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Vihiga Branch.
The meeting, attended by Deputy Governor Wilberforce Kitiezo and union officials led by Executive Secretary Charles Otiende, focused on welfare concerns, capacity‑building initiatives, and preparations for KUPPET’s forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).
A key resolution was the union’s decision to designate the Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital (VTRH) as its preferred healthcare provider. Governor Ottichilo said the partnership would improve teachers’ access to quality medical services while boosting service uptake and revenue at the county referral hospital.

He further committed the county government to supporting KUPPET’s professional development programmes by providing training venues and learning materials. Ottichilo emphasised that his administration would continue working closely with education stakeholders to enhance teacher welfare and improve the quality of education across the county.
Present at the meeting were County Executive Committee Member for Education Anne Desma, Chief Officer Dominic Luvavo, and other senior county officials, underscoring the county’s commitment to collaborative engagement with the education sector.
