Murang’a Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Branch has officially endorsed Assistant Executive Secretary Michael Murigi for the position of National Trustee representing the Central Region ahead of the union’s elections later this year.
The endorsement was announced jointly by Murang’a Branch Executive Secretary Thomas Kimani and Branch Chairman Salim Suleiman, who described Murigi as a leader committed to accountability, integrity and effective representation of teachers’ interests.
Suleiman is also seeking election as Chairperson of the KUPPET Central Regional Council.
The endorsement adds momentum to Murigi’s campaign after he recently declared his candidature for the influential national position, which will be contested during the KUPPET Annual Delegates Conference (ADC).
Murigi said his decision to contest the trustee position followed extensive consultations with teachers, delegates, union officials and education stakeholders across the Central Region.
The youthful union leader revealed that he had initially intended to vie for the position of Central Region Secretary before changing course after assessing the evolving role and future structure of regional councils within the union.
“As a strong advocate for reforms within our union, I had initially expressed my interest in contesting for the position of Central Region Secretary with the sole intention of serving our members and championing the positive changes that our region deserves,” he said.
Commitment to transparency
Murigi said the National Trustee position would provide a greater opportunity to contribute to the union’s governance and strategic direction while promoting prudent management of its resources.
If elected, he will represent KUPPET branches from Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Nyandarua counties at the national level.
The National Trustee is responsible for safeguarding the union’s assets and promoting sound financial management.
Murigi pledged to champion transparency, accountability, integrity and responsible stewardship while ensuring members’ interests remain at the centre of decision-making.
“As National Trustee, I will work diligently to safeguard the union’s assets, uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability, transparency and prudent stewardship, while ensuring that members’ interests remain paramount,” he said.
The National Trustee election will be decided by Branch Executive Committee members and pro-rata delegates drawn from KUPPET’s 47 branches during the Annual Delegates Conference.
Murigi appealed for support from delegates across the country, saying collective leadership is essential in strengthening the union and advancing the welfare of teachers.

The endorsement by the Murang’a branch leadership is expected to bolster his campaign as KUPPET members prepare to elect national officials who will steer the union’s future agenda and representation of teachers nationwide.
