Enkare Ngiro Secondary School from Narok South Sub-county has qualified for the national Kenya Music Festival after emerging the best in the Giriama Dance category during the Rift Valley Regional Music Festival held at Top Hill School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
The Narok-based school impressed adjudicators with a captivating cultural performance that earned 91 marks, securing top position in the category and a place at the national championships scheduled to be held at Kababii University.
Judges praised the learners for their exceptional mastery of the dance, particularly in vocal delivery, choreography and cultural presentation.
The team attained full marks in singing, scoring 25 out of 25, with adjudicators commending their strong vocal projection, excellent tone and authentic interpretation of the Giriama cultural style.
In the performance section, the learners scored 38 out of 40 marks after showcasing energetic dance routines, coordinated movements, vibrant costumes and effective use of musical instruments.
The adjudicators also applauded the dancers for confidently utilising the stage and maintaining audience engagement throughout the presentation.
The soloist received special commendation for demonstrating strong leadership and command of the performance, with judges describing the item as a polished presentation that effectively celebrated Kenya’s cultural diversity.
The only area identified for improvement was synchronisation during the closing stages of the dance.
Principal praises teamwork
Speaking after the results were announced, Principal Seela Kuluo attributed the achievement to dedication, teamwork and the school’s deliberate investment in talent development.
She said the institution remains committed to nurturing learners beyond academics by providing opportunities in music, sports and innovation.

She noted that co-curricular activities help learners develop confidence, creativity, teamwork and leadership skills that are essential for success in life.
Kuluo added that the school’s focus on holistic education continues to bear fruit across different fields.
Eyes on national honours
Besides excelling in music, Enkare Ngiro Secondary has previously distinguished itself in basketball and is currently ranked first in Narok County and 41st nationally in the Wavumbuzi ICT Challenge.
