- Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has pledged to fast-track completion of long-stalled education projects in Chebara, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
- The institutions were relocated to pave the way for the construction of Chebara Dam more than a decade ago.
- The government says completing the projects will expand access to education, skills training and higher learning in the region.
The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to complete stalled public projects across the country, with renewed focus on learning institutions in Chebara, Elgeyo Marakwet County, whose construction has remained incomplete for more than a decade.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the projects, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the Kenya Kwanza administration is determined to ensure value for money and the timely completion of public infrastructure.
“The Kenya Kwanza Administration is firmly committed to completing all stalled projects across the country so as to unlock their socio-economic benefits and deliver value for resources invested,” Murkomen said.
Inspection of learning institutions
The CS inspected construction works at Chebara Vocational Training Centre, Chebara Boys High School, AIC Chebara Girls High School, Chebara Comprehensive School, Kaptomut Primary School and AIC Chebara Chapel.
The learning institutions were relocated to pave the way for the construction of Chebara Dam.
Murkomen said the government will fully implement the Presidential directive to mobilise resources and fast-track the work of a new contractor after the previous contractor failed to complete the projects.
The Cabinet Secretary also inspected the ongoing renovation of existing infrastructure and construction of hostels at Tambach Teachers Training College, as well as the site for the proposed Kerio University.
“We remain resolute in ensuring that every taxpayer’s coin is accounted for and that public projects are completed within the stipulated timelines and standards,” he added.
Local leaders welcomed the government’s renewed commitment, saying completion of the institutions will expand access to education, technical training and higher learning opportunities for young people in the region.
The inspection forms part of the government’s nationwide audit of stalled projects aimed at accelerating service delivery and promoting grassroots development.

Murkomen was accompanied by Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Charles Hinga, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, Senator William Kisang, Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai, Marakwet West MP Timothy Toroitich, Elgeyo Marakwet Woman Representative Caroline Ngelechei, Members of County Assembly and other leaders.
