Parents of seven-year-old Collins Agisa from Kiabiraa Location in Nyamira County are demanding justice after their son was allegedly murdered in a case that has shocked the local community.
The Grade 3 pupil reportedly left home on Wednesday evening to take a lamp to his mother, who was selling sweet potato chips along a nearby roadside.
According to the boy’s father, Erick Ombogo, he believed his son had remained with his mother after delivering the lamp.
It was only when the mother returned home later that evening that the family realised the child had never reached her.
“We launched a search overnight until Thursday morning when we found his dead body dumped in our tea farm, with a tree stump placed on the body to conceal it,” said the distraught father.
Family appeals for answers
The family reported the incident to Kisii Central Police Station, and officers moved the body to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
A visibly shaken Ombogo appealed to the person responsible to come forward and explain the motive behind the killing.
“I ask the person who did this devilish act to volunteer and tell us why. I promise to forgive whoever committed it,” he said.
Kisii County Police Commander Ronald Kirui condemned the killing and confirmed that investigations had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
Kirui said cases involving the kidnapping and killing of children have become a growing concern in the area and urged parents to remain vigilant, particularly during the evening hours.
He also appealed to members of the public with information that could assist investigations to report it to the police.
Community in mourning
The incident has left residents of Kiabiraa in shock.
Neighbours described Collins as a cheerful, obedient and well-behaved child who was loved by the community.
They have called on security agencies to intensify patrols and ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
