- Kiambu MP Machua Waithaka has commissioned new education projects aimed at improving learning across the constituency.
- The NG-CDF-funded initiatives include classrooms, a science laboratory, digital skills training and support for co-curricular activities.
- The legislator says continued investment in education will enhance learning outcomes and prepare learners for future opportunities.
A series of education development projects funded through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) are transforming public schools across Kiambu Constituency, with area MP Machua Waithaka intensifying efforts to improve learning facilities, promote co-curricular activities and expand digital skills training for young people.
The latest milestone was marked at Ndumberi Primary School, where the legislator presided over the commissioning of newly completed infrastructure projects in the presence of parents, teachers, learners and members of the local community.
The upgrades have significantly modernised the institution and include newly constructed classrooms, a fully equipped Junior Secondary School science laboratory, tiled classrooms, refurbished doors and windows, new blackboards, cabro-paved walkways, solar power installation and a secure perimeter wall with a modern entrance gate.
Waithaka said the improvements are intended to create a safe and learner-friendly environment that supports quality education while responding to the demands of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.
He reaffirmed his commitment to investing in education, describing it as the foundation of social and economic transformation, and pledged to roll out similar projects in other schools across the constituency.
Boosting co-curricular activities
The MP later visited Kiambu Primary School, where he donated new uniforms to the school’s marching band in support of talent development and co-curricular excellence.
He also announced that the constituency had engaged a retired Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer to provide professional band training to learners at Kiambu Primary School and other institutions.
According to Waithaka, participation in school band activities helps learners develop discipline, teamwork, leadership, patriotism and confidence while complementing classroom learning.

The legislator also held consultations with head teachers from primary schools across the constituency to discuss challenges affecting schools and explore strategies for improving education standards.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between school administrators and the NG-CDF in expanding infrastructure, enhancing the learning environment and improving academic performance.
Waithaka said his office would work towards establishing a sustainable programme to ease the financial burden on parents by making primary education free within the constituency.
He noted that the successful implementation of free day secondary education in Kiambu Constituency demonstrates that similar initiatives can be achieved through prudent use of public resources and focused leadership.
Expanding digital skills
Beyond classroom infrastructure, the MP underscored the importance of digital literacy, pointing to the ongoing free training at the Ndumberi Jitume ICT Hub, where young people are acquiring skills in basic computer applications and graphic design.
He encouraged parents to enrol Form Four graduates in the programme instead of allowing them to remain idle, saying digital competencies are increasingly essential for employment, entrepreneurship and participation in the global digital economy.
Waithaka said equipping young people with practical ICT skills complements investments in education by preparing them for opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven world.
