Egerton University to honour Prof Catherine Kitetu with candle-lighting ceremony

Egerton University will today hold a candle-lighting ceremony in honour of the late Prof Catherine Wawasi Kitetu as the institution celebrates her life, achievements and lasting contribution to academia.

The event, organised by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), will take place at the faculty grounds and is expected to bring together students, lecturers, staff members, alumni, family and friends.

According to the university, the ceremony will feature prayers, heartfelt tributes, soulful music and a symbolic candle-lighting session in remembrance of the renowned scholar, mentor and teacher.

Prof. Kitetu is remembered for her dedication to teaching, research and mentorship, qualities that endeared her to students and colleagues throughout her distinguished academic career.

Members of the university community are expected to share memories and reflections on the impact she made in shaping lives and advancing scholarship.

The candle-lighting ceremony will provide an opportunity for mourners to celebrate a life well lived and honour a legacy that continues to inspire learners and educators alike.
