- Kisii County has partnered with KBC to broadcast FIFA World Cup 2026 matches on public screens in selected town centres.
- County leaders say the initiative will give rural youth greater access to the tournament while nurturing football talent.
- Officials also hope the public screenings will promote unity and peaceful coexistence across the county.
Kisii County has announced a partnership with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) to air live coverage of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 on public television screens in designated town centres across the county. The specific centres will be announced later.
Speaking at his Kisii Town office during a meeting with KBC officials, Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo said the initiative is aimed at giving rural youth, who are passionate about football, wider access to the tournament while nurturing their talent.
Mr. Obebo, who spoke on behalf of Governor Simba Arati, said the programme would enable more young people to watch the world’s biggest football tournament despite limited access to television.
“This move is meant to give a wider view of the tournament to the majority of youths in rural areas who are great fans of football and aspire to develop their talent,” he said.
Obebo added that the public screenings would also promote unity among Kisii residents, particularly during the current period of early political campaigns.

“Peace is paramount for our school-going children, and we are working hard to maintain it against those who are trying to portray our region as chaotic. We want to shame them in the name of Jesus,” he said.
