- Defending champions Cheptil Secondary will not defend their title after failing to qualify, guaranteeing a new national champion in Thika.
- As the 2026 KSSSA national term two games approach, the door is wide open for a new school to etch its name into history.
St. Patrick’s High School, Iten from Elgeyo-Marakwet County remains the undisputed king of Kenyan secondary school boys’ volleyball, having won a record 17 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national titles—more than any other school in the competition’s history.
The Elgeyo-Marakwet-based institution, one of Kenya’s leading academic institutions, built one of the greatest dynasties in Kenyan school sports by winning 15 consecutive national championships between 1971 and 1984 before adding three more titles in 1987, 1989 and 1990. More than three decades later, no school has managed to surpass the Saints’ remarkable achievement.
As the countdown to the 2026 KSSSA national term two games at the MPesa Academy in Thika, Kiambu County, later this month gathers pace, St. Patrick’s rich legacy continues to inspire a new generation of volleyball players seeking national glory.
Defending champions Cheptil Secondary, who have dominated the modern era of the sport, will not defend their title after failing to qualify for this year’s national finals. Their absence guarantees the crowning of a new national champion.
The All-Time Roll of Honour
Cheptil ranks second on the all-time list with seven national titles won in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2022, 2024 and 2025, while Malava Boys occupies third place with five championships captured in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2015 and 2018.
Giakanja Secondary, Kiriti Secondary and Paul Boit Secondary have each won three national titles, while Eastleigh High School, Manor House Secondary and Sengera Boys have lifted the trophy twice.
Kabiyet Secondary, Afuthi Secondary, Tetu Boys, Kapsaos Secondary, Samitsi Secondary, Hospital Hill, Mogonga Secondary and Ruthimitu Secondary have each won one national championship.
The tournament has produced different eras of dominance, from St. Patrick’s golden generation in the 1970s and 1980s to the rise of Paul Boit, Malava Boys and Cheptil in recent decades.
With Cheptil missing from this year’s championship, the door is wide open for another school to etch its name into the KSSSA history books and earn the right to represent Kenya at the FEASSSA Games.
