A first-year Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student from Bomababa Ward in Kenyenya Sub-county is stranded at home after her father reportedly went missing under unclear circumstances.

Everlyne Nyandieka had returned home to collect school fees when her father, Joseph Nyandieka Okiagera, reportedly left to withdraw money from a bank in Ogembo town but never returned.

Speaking to Education News, Joseph’s wife, Bosibori Okiagera, said the family has been left in distress following his disappearance.

“I went to Ogembo town and was told that he was picked up by unknown people who claimed to be police officers and taken to a place we do not know,” she said.

She added that the family has been unable to raise Everlyne’s college fees, leaving the student unable to return to school.

“Everlyne was supposed to report back to college this week. We had no other source of school fees except her father. We sleep in fear and wake up in fear,” she said.

Appeal for answers

Joseph’s uncle, Francis Omboho, said the family has reported the matter to the police and is following up at various stations.

“We are shattered as a family. Joseph is a responsible father and cannot simply abandon his children like this,” he said.

The family has appealed to Kisii County Police Commander Ronald Kirui to issue an official statement regarding Joseph’s whereabouts.

“We are pleading with the police commander to help us. Tell us whether he is in custody or where he was taken. That information alone will ease the tension and trauma this family is experiencing, especially for Everlyne, who urgently needs school fees to return to college,” Bosibori appealed.
