The Chief Principal of Nyakeore Secondary School, Charles Omosa, has emphasised the importance of nurturing learners spiritually alongside their academic development, saying schools that invest in both produce disciplined, focused and responsible young people.

He spoke during the launch and dedication of the school’s choir, Governors of Christ, an event attended by school choirs, chaplains and pastors from across the region.

The occasion featured concerts, choruses and scripture recitations presented by participating schools.

Omosa said moral decline and indiscipline remain major challenges affecting learning in many schools.

He urged school administrators, parents and religious leaders to work together in instilling Christian values among learners.

According to the principal, spiritual growth equips students to make sound decisions and remain committed to their studies.

Four key benefits

Omosa outlined four ways Christianity contributes to improving education standards.

First, he said Christian teachings promote honesty, respect, hard work and obedience, helping learners develop discipline and good character.

Secondly, he noted that faith gives students hope, purpose and motivation, encouraging them to persevere even when academic work becomes challenging.

Thirdly, Christian values promote unity, forgiveness and compassion, reducing bullying, tribalism and conflict while creating a peaceful learning environment.

Finally, he said Christianity nurtures integrity, stewardship and accountability, preparing learners to become trustworthy and ethical leaders.

Omosa encouraged schools in Nyamira County to strengthen spiritual programmes through fellowships, guidance and counselling, and mentorship grounded in Christian principles.
