The Government of Kenya has formalised a partnership with AHK Services Eastern Africa Limited to expand ethical labour migration and skills mobility between Kenya and Germany.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Nairobi, Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Kathure Njogu described the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a significant milestone in creating structured, mutually beneficial migration pathways while strengthening skills exchange between the two countries.

The agreement, signed by PS Njogu and Dagmar von Bohnstein, Delegate of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Eastern Africa, builds on the Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership signed in Berlin in September 2024.

Expanding employment opportunities

Njogu said labour, talent and skills mobility remain key drivers of economic transformation.

“Labour, talents and skills mobility is a key driver of economic transformation,” she said.

She noted that well-managed migration promotes knowledge transfer, strengthens bilateral relations and contributes to Kenya’s economy through diaspora remittances.

The Principal Secretary identified German language certification as one of the major barriers preventing many Kenyans from accessing employment opportunities in Germany.

She announced plans to expand access to German language examinations to help more qualified Kenyans compete in the international labour market.

Njogu commended AHK Services Eastern Africa for partnering with the Government to promote ethical recruitment and sustainable labour mobility.

She said the collaboration would strengthen transparent migration systems while ensuring Kenyan professionals secure employment through fair and regulated processes.

Investment opportunities

The Principal Secretary also invited German investors to expand investments in Kenya, highlighting opportunities in information and communication technology, manufacturing, agribusiness, renewable energy and real estate.

“Kenya remains one of Africa’s most dynamic economies,” she said, adding that labour mobility complements investment by strengthening trade relations and showcasing Kenyan talent globally.

Njogu reaffirmed the State Department’s commitment to protecting the welfare of Kenyans living and working abroad while developing inclusive programmes that support members of the diaspora.

She also thanked AHK Services Eastern Africa, the Government of Germany and other stakeholders for their collaboration in making the partnership a reality.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of the German Industry and Commerce delegation, government officials, private sector leaders and diaspora stakeholders.
