- KUCCPS has recorded progress in reaching out to students who qualified for university admission
- Candidates who attained higher grades were more likely to apply for placement
More than 51,000 candidates who attained a minimum grade of C+ in the 2025 KCSE examination, making them eligible for university admission, did not apply for placement, according to data from the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
KUCCPS statistics show that 51,835 of the 268,729 candidates eligible for university admission failed to submit placement applications. The largest share of non-applicants was among candidates who scored a C+.
Of the 103,858 candidates who attained a C+, only 78,017 submitted placement applications, representing an application rate of 75.1 per cent.
The data further shows that candidates who attained higher grades were more likely to apply for placement. Of the 1,931 candidates who scored an A, 1,860 applied, translating to an application rate of 96.3 per cent. Similarly, 8,667 of the 9,259 candidates who attained an A- submitted applications, representing 93.6 per cent.
Among candidates who scored a B+, 20,911 out of 23,748 eligible applicants applied for placement, an application rate of 88.1 per cent. For grade B, 42,029 of the 49,805 eligible candidates applied, representing 84.4 per cent, while 65,410 of the 80,128 candidates who attained a B- submitted applications, which translates to about 81.6 per cent.

Despite some eligible candidates failing to apply for placement, KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Wahome said the agency had recorded progress in reaching out to students who qualified for university admission.
“We have seen a steady increase in the number of students qualifying for university. We can account for 81 per cent of the students who attained C+ and above in the 2025 KCSE examination,” said Wahome during the release of the placement results on Wednesday, July 8.
A total of 20293,869students have been placed in higher learning institutions, with 202,133 students being placed in degree programmes, 28,246placed in Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), 765 students placed to the Kenya Utalii College, 875placed in Secondary Teacher Training College (TTC) programmes, and 500 students selected for diploma programmes at the Kenya School of Law.
