The stage is set for the 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Eastern Region Term Two games, with top school teams from across the region converging in Makueni County for four days of intense competition and sporting excellence.
The championships will run from today, July 8, to Saturday at Makueni Boys grounds and other designated venues, bringing together county champions from Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Isiolo and other counties.
The regional event follows the conclusion of county-level competitions, which saw schools battle for qualification slots. The winners now advance to the Eastern Region Games, where they will compete for titles and a chance to secure qualification for the KSSSA National Championships.
Among the teams expected to attract attention are Katheka Kai from Machakos in boys’ football, Mbitini Girls from Kitui in girls’ football, and Misuuni Secondary School from Makueni in the same category. Rugby, volleyball, netball, and basketball competitions are also expected to produce thrilling encounters as schools seek regional supremacy.
Host county Makueni will be banking on home support to inspire its representatives, while traditional powerhouses from Machakos and Kitui will be looking to continue their dominance on the regional stage.

Organisers have confirmed that all preparations for the games are complete, including accommodation, security arrangements, medical services nd competition venues. Schools are expected to arrive ahead of the official opening ceremony as excitement builds across the region.
Beyond competition, the games provide a platform for nurturing young talent, promoting teamwork, and strengthening unity among students from different counties.
Scouts and sports officials will also be keenly monitoring outstanding performers who could earn opportunities at higher levels of competition.
With regional bragging rights and national qualification tickets on the line, fans can expect four days of thrilling action as the Eastern Region’s best school teams battle for glory in Makueni.
The event is expected to draw large crowds of students, teachers, parents and sports enthusiasts, making it one of the biggest school sports spectacles in the region this year.
