  • West Pokot County education fraternity is mourning the death of Simitei Primary school headteacher Lucy Chemtai.
  • Friends and collegues have describe her as adedicated and committed educationist who served learners with distinction.

The education fraternity in West Pokot County is mourning the death of Lucy Chemtai, the headteacher of Simitei Primary School in Kishaunet Zone, Kapenguria, whose passing has been described as a great loss to the teaching profession.

The Ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), teachers and residents across the county have joined in paying tribute to Chemtai, remembering her as a dedicated and committed educationist who served learners with distinction.

Chemtai was widely recognised for her leadership and active role in implementing the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum in the county. Colleagues described her as one of the school heads who consistently championed education reforms and promoted quality learning.

Before her posting to Simitei Primary School, Chemtai had been delocalised to West Pokot County, where she served at Chemakeu School and earned the respect of fellow teachers and the local community through her professionalism and commitment.

Her death has left colleagues, friends, learners and residents in shock as they remember her contribution to the education sector in West Pokot.

Burial arrangements are yet to be announced, with family members, relatives, friends and teachers currently holding consultations before communicating the funeral programme.
