Thousands of teachers and other professionals who participated in the administration and marking of the 2025 national examinations have renewed hope after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) issued an urgent communication to Chief Examiners.

The message, circulated under a certificate of urgency, directs Chief Examiners to submit details of any examiner who marked the December 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations but has since passed away.

The required information is to be submitted by the close of business on Sunday, July 5.

Verification exercise

The urgency of the communication has generated optimism among examiners and other contracted professionals who have been waiting for payment of their examination allowances.

Although KNEC has not issued an official public statement linking the exercise to payment processing, many examiners believe the verification exercise could form part of preparations for settling outstanding claims.

The anticipated payments would benefit thousands of professionals engaged during the 2025 national examination cycle, including KCSE, KPSEA and KJSEA examiners, invigilators, supervisors, centre managers, drivers, security officers and other support staff.

Mr. Ben Otieno, Chief Examiner for KCSE English Paper 2, confirmed receiving the communication from KNEC, affirming its authenticity.

He, however, did not provide further information regarding the expected payment process.

The development has triggered widespread discussion across teachers’ forums and social media platforms, where many contracted professionals have expressed optimism that the prolonged wait for their allowances may soon come to an end.

Despite the growing optimism, KNEC has not announced an official payment schedule.
