St. Martha’s Mwitoti Senior School is confident of making a strong impression at the 2026 Western Region Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Games in Bungoma County.
The school will represent Kakamega County in girls’ volleyball and netball following an impressive performance at the Kakamega County Secondary Schools Championships held in Mumias from June 18 to 20.
St. Martha’s Mwitoti has established itself as one of the region’s leading girls’ volleyball schools.
Having represented Kakamega County at last year’s national championships, the school is determined to build on that success by securing another place at the national finals.
Principal Samuel Ogolla said both teams are well prepared and ready to compete against the region’s best.
“We have participated in several build-up tournaments, and the girls have performed exceptionally well. We have prepared thoroughly, and we are not intimidated by any team at the regional championships. Our target is to qualify for the national games,” he said.
Although he acknowledged that schools such as Lugulu Girls would provide stiff competition, Ogolla expressed confidence in his players’ ability to challenge for the regional title.
The principal commended the Ministry of Education for supporting school sports but appealed for timely disbursement of funds to enable schools to prepare adequately for major competitions.
“The Ministry has done well in supporting school games, but we request that facilitation be released earlier so that schools can organise better preparations ahead of the championships,” he said.
Ogolla also urged sports fans from Mumias East and across Kakamega County to travel to Bungoma to support the school’s teams.
He further appealed to coaches to uphold the integrity of school sports by fielding only eligible players.
“These games are meant for students. Let us all field eligible players and allow the competitions to be decided fairly on the court and on the field,” he said.
Strong county performance
St. Martha’s Mwitoti heads into the regional championships in excellent form after dominating the county competition.
The volleyball team defeated Butere Girls 3-0 in the semi-finals before registering another 3-0 victory over St. Joseph’s in the final to win the county title.
The school’s netball team also impressed, defeating Lukhokho 40-28 to qualify for the regional championships.
