A Kajiado County Assembly member wants the county executive to explain why an early childhood education project funded four financial years ago has yet to see a single spade in the ground.

Timothy Kanka, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Imbirikani/Eselenkei Ward, has asked the House to compel the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Vocational Training, Youth and Sports to give a full account of the Paranae two Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classrooms project.

Kanka said the project received an allocation of Ksh 4 million in the 2022/2023 financial year but has remained stalled since then.

He told the assembly that no development activity has taken place at the project site despite the funds having been allocated years ago.

The MCA directed his request to the relevant select committee, seeking responses on three specific issues.

He asked whether the project has been fully paid for, and if so, to what extent.

Kanka also sought full procurement details of the project, including the name of the contractor awarded the tender and the contract sum agreed upon.

He further asked for a status update on the project’s implementation and completion, including the specific reasons behind the delay if it remains incomplete.

The statement request now awaits a response from the CECM for Education, Vocational Training, Youth and Sports, who is expected to appear before the select committee to address the questions raised.
