Trans Nzoia pledges better facilities, modern equipment for VTCs to curb youth unemployment

The Trans Nzoia County Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening vocational education and training as part of efforts to equip young people with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.

County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Janerose Mutama made the commitment while representing Governor George Natembeya at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Kitale Vocational Training Centre. She was accompanied by the Director of Vocational Training, Mr Lusweti.

Addressing stakeholders during the meeting, Mutama said the county government remains focused on improving vocational training through enhanced learning facilities, modern equipment and quality skills development programmes aimed at preparing trainees for the job market and self-employment.

She said the county administration recognises Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions as key drivers of economic growth, adding that investment in practical skills is critical to addressing youth unemployment and promoting entrepreneurship.

“I had the honour of representing H.E. Governor George Natembeya at the AGM of Kitale Vocational Training Centre. I reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to strengthening vocational training through improved facilities, quality skills development, and empowering our youth with practical knowledge for employment and entrepreneurship,” Mutama said.

Call for partnerships

Mutama said the county government will continue partnering with stakeholders to improve the quality of vocational education and ensure that young people acquire industry-relevant skills that meet the demands of the labour market.

She further called on parents, development partners and the private sector to support vocational training institutions, saying collective efforts are essential in nurturing a skilled and self-reliant generation.

The AGM brought together county officials, trainers, board members and education stakeholders to review the progress of Kitale Vocational Training Centre and discuss strategies for strengthening technical and vocational education across Trans Nzoia County.

Mutama reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to building a skilled and empowered generation capable of driving innovation, creating employment opportunities and contributing to the county’s socio-economic development.
