Leaders in Embu County have raised funds to support the transformation of St Boniface Mugui Senior School after years of neglect.
The fundraising event, held at the school in Runyenjes Constituency, is expected to support a comprehensive rehabilitation programme spearheaded by a committee chaired by KTDA Holdings Chairman Enos Njeru.
The school was identified as one that primarily serves children of tea farmers and tea pluckers in the area, prompting leaders to rally behind efforts to improve learning conditions.
Addressing the gathering, Enos Njeru recounted his humble educational journey, explaining that his parents were unable to enrol him at Kamama Secondary School, leading him to join Mugui Secondary School.
He recalled how he collected firewood from Mount Kenya Forest to help raise money for school uniforms and other basic necessities.
His testimony inspired many participants, highlighting the transformative power of education despite economic hardship.
Leaders rally behind the school
The chief guest, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, praised Njeru for returning to support the institutions that shaped his life and for mobilising friends and partners to invest in education.
“I am delighted by the stories I have heard from Njeru. From them, I now understand why he has thousands of friends, many of whom I can see here today supporting this fundraiser,” said the Kericho Senator.
During the fundraiser, President William Ruto contributed KSh5 million through the National Government Infrastructure Fund.
Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki donated KSh2 million, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot contributed KSh1 million, while Enos Njeru gave KSh2 million.

Parents of St Boniface Mugui Senior School also raised KSh1.2 million, alongside contributions from other well-wishers.
The school’s Board of Management said the funds will be used to strengthen implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE) by improving infrastructure.
