The newly elected board of Nyali School has pledged to restore stability, strengthen academic excellence and rebuild public confidence following years of leadership disputes that have clouded the reputation of one of the Coast region’s leading educational institutions.

Officials of the Mombasa Parents Club, the body responsible for overseeing the management of Nyali School, assured parents, alumni and other stakeholders that the long-standing wrangles that have affected the institution have now been resolved.

Speaking during a press briefing at the school on Saturday, Mombasa Parents Club Secretary Sammy Ruwa said the current board assumed office after a free, fair and transparent election conducted two weeks ago under the supervision of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Ruwa said parents had overwhelmingly entrusted the new leadership with the responsibility of managing the affairs of both the club and the school for the next two years.

“Nyali School has been in the limelight over the past few years due to leadership challenges. We are pleased that parents have given us the mandate to stabilise the institution and restore it to its rightful position,” he said.

He acknowledged that the internal disputes had negatively affected the school’s image but emphasised that the new leadership was committed to rebuilding both its infrastructure and academic standing.

“Our promise is that within these two years, we shall restore Nyali School to the position it deserves. The institution has made Mombasa proud over the years, and we want to revive that legacy and reaffirm its status as a centre of excellence,” Ruwa added.

According to Ruwa, several members of the newly elected board, including its chairman, are alumni of the institution, giving them a strong personal commitment to its growth and success.

He noted that the board comprises professionals from diverse fields, including law, finance, business, marketing and human resource management, whose expertise will help drive the school’s development agenda.

“This board brings together accountants, lawyers, business professionals, marketers and HR experts who have volunteered their skills for the benefit of the school and the future of our children,” he said.

Ruwa further expressed confidence that leadership disputes would not recur, noting that the election process had conclusively addressed governance and legitimacy concerns.

“Most of the wrangles revolved around leadership issues. The election was open, transparent and credible, and parents are satisfied that this is the team they elected. We do not anticipate further leadership disputes,” he said.

The new board, he added, will prioritise dialogue and engagement with parents whenever challenges arise. It is also reaching out to families who withdrew their children from the school during the period of uncertainty.

“We are aware that some parents transferred their children because of the challenges the school faced. We invite them to return, witness the positive changes being implemented and consider bringing their children back to an environment focused on safety and excellence,” Ruwa said.

Nyali School Principal Aurelia Manyeti echoed the board’s sentiments, affirming that the institution remains stable and committed to providing quality, holistic education.

She assured parents and stakeholders that learning activities were proceeding smoothly and that the school remained focused on maintaining high academic standards while nurturing the overall development of its learners.
