The race for football supremacy in Kitui county is set to intensify as 16 secondary schools prepare to battle for top honours during the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) term two ball games championship scheduled for July 1–4 at Mwingi Boys High School.
The tournament comes at a crucial stage in the school sports calendar, with teams seeking not only county bragging rights but also qualification to the Eastern Region championships.
Schools from all corners of the county have earned their places after emerging victorious in sub-county competitions, setting up what promises to be a highly competitive contest.
Among the schools expected to attract attention are St. Charles Lwanga, Migwani Boys, Mutito Boys, Katulani Boys, and Nguni Boys, institutions with strong football traditions and a history of producing talented players.

Mwingi Boys High School, which will host the championship, is putting final touches on preparations to accommodate teams, officials, and supporters expected from across the county.
Organizers say adequate measures are being put in place to ensure smooth coordination of matches, security, medical services and accommodation throughout the four-day event.
With the knockout rounds beginning immediately after the group stages, teams will have little room for error.
Coaches are expected to field their strongest squads as every match could determine who advances and who goes home.
Sports enthusiasts across Kitui County are already looking forward to thrilling encounters, dramatic upsets and standout performances from young stars eager to leave their mark on the county championship.
Other than football, volleyball, basketball, rugby, netball and indoor games will also be played.
