Ebukanga Technical and Vocational College (TVC) has embarked on the expansion of its training infrastructure with the construction of a modern masonry workshop, a move aimed at strengthening practical skills training and accommodating a growing student population.

The new facility, being developed by trainees enrolled in the Building Technology/Masonry programme, will serve the institution’s Building and Civil Engineering Department. Once completed, the workshop will accommodate up to 100 trainees at a time, helping to ease congestion in existing facilities while providing a professional environment for advanced practical learning.

College Principal Newton Shivachi said the expansion is part of the institution’s efforts to respond to increasing enrolment and enhance the quality of technical training offered at the college.

According to Shivachi, the institution currently has 1,316 trainees, a number that has continued to grow due to the college’s wide range of market-oriented programmes. The courses are offered under the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and cover key disciplines including Engineering, Agriculture, Business and Applied Sciences.

“The new masonry workshop will not only increase training capacity but also provide trainees with an opportunity to undertake more realistic and complex construction projects, thereby improving their hands-on skills,” said Shivachi.

The infrastructure expansion comes as the college celebrates strong performance at the 2026 Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) Western Region TVET Fair.

During the regional competition, Ebukanga TVC showcased outstanding innovations in Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building Technology and Agriculture. The institution also demonstrated skills excellence in Electrical Installation and Plumbing.

The impressive performance builds on the college’s success at the 2025 KATTI Western Region TVET Fair, where it emerged first in the Agriculture category before going on to represent the region at the national competitions held in Mombasa.

College management says the continued investment in modern training facilities, coupled with innovation-driven learning, is positioning Ebukanga TVC among the leading TVET institutions in the Western Region and enhancing its capacity to produce industry-ready graduates.
