Confusion and frustration marked the opening stages of the Homa Bay County Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games after a designated girls’ football venue reportedly remained inaccessible due to a communication breakdown between organizers and the host school administration.
The incident occurred at St. Ambrose, the venue scheduled to host Pool D girls’ football matches.
According to the preliminary reports, the school’s watchman declined to open the gate, claiming that the principal had not been informed that the school’s playing field would be used for the county championship fixtures.
The unexpected development left players, coaches, officials and fans stranded as they awaited a resolution.
The delay disrupted the planned match schedule and raised concerns about the level of preparedness by organizers ahead of one of the county’s biggest school sporting events.
Witnesses questioned how a venue could be included in the tournament programme without proper communication and coordination with the host institution.
