Police have launched investigations into a burglary at Kaptagat Girls High School in Elgeyo Marakwet County after suspected thieves reportedly broke into the institution in the early hours of the morning and targeted key administrative offices.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. when the suspects gained access to the school compound.
The intruders allegedly overpowered and tied up the watchmen on duty before proceeding with their operation.
Administrative Offices Targeted
The suspects are said to have broken into the bursar’s office, the clerk’s office and the deputy principal’s office.
Authorities are yet to establish the full extent of the damage or determine whether cash, official documents or other valuables were stolen during the raid.
The watchmen, who were restrained during the incident, were later rescued and are assisting investigators with information that could help identify the perpetrators.
No injuries were reported.
Investigations Underway
Police officers visited the scene and commenced investigations, collecting evidence and recording statements from school staff and security personnel.
Detectives are also pursuing leads that could help track down those responsible.
The break-in has raised concerns over security in learning institutions amid increasing cases of theft and vandalism targeting schools.
School administrators have urged law enforcement agencies to expedite investigations and strengthen security measures to prevent similar incidents.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public with information that may assist investigations to report to the nearest police station.
