The government has allocated KSh 3 billion to the School Feeding Programme in the FY 2026/27 Budget, reaffirming its commitment to improving learner retention and attendance in vulnerable regions.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi announced the allocation while presenting the national budget in Parliament on Thursday.
“I also propose KSh 3.0 billion for the School Feeding Programme,” said Mbadi.
The programme has become a critical intervention in supporting school attendance, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions where food insecurity remains a major challenge.
The allocation comes as the government continues to invest heavily in education, with the sector receiving KSh 784.5 billion in the FY 2026/27 Budget.
School feeding initiatives have been credited with encouraging enrolment and retention, particularly among children from low-income families.
The funding is expected to support procurement and distribution of food supplies to participating schools while strengthening learning outcomes through improved nutrition.

The government says the programme will continue playing a key role in ensuring no learner is left behind due to hunger and poverty-related barriers.
