University and TVET students are set to benefit from a massive funding package after Treasury allocated more than KSh 101 billion for loans, scholarships and skills development in the 2026/27 financial year.
According to the Budget Statement presented by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi on Thursday, June 11, 2026, the government has allocated:
- KSh 56.3 billion to the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
- KSh 30.9 billion for university scholarships.
- KSh 9.2 billion for TVET scholarships.
- KSh 58.5 billion for the TVET sub-sector.
Treasury said the investments are aimed at strengthening human capital development and ensuring young people acquire skills that match labour market demands.
The government noted that TVET enrolment has grown significantly from 562,499 trainees in 2022 to 825,484 trainees in 2025, demonstrating increasing demand for technical skills training.
Mbadi said the government would continue investing in education and training to improve productivity and economic competitiveness.
