Secondary schools across Kisii County have kicked off the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) sub-county competitions, with hundreds of student-athletes battling for places in the county championships while showcasing talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Recently elected Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Nyanza Region official Geoffrey Nyantika has expressed satisfaction with the organization of games teachers during the ongoing sub-county competitions across the region.
In Kisii County, schools from the 13 sub-counties kicked off their competitions on Thursday at various venues, with the matches expected to conclude on Friday.
In Kitutu Central Sub-county, Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School is hosting neighbouring schools, including Ong’icha and Riotero.
In Kisii Central, boys’ football matches are being played at Kisii School, while girls’ football matches are taking place at Nyanchwa High School.
Schools showcase talent
Etago Sub-county launched its competitions at Nyakeyo Playground, bringing together schools such as Ndonyo, Mariwa, and Ayora.
Gucha South is holding its matches at Nduru Boys High School and Nyamarambe Public Sports Ground.
Kisii South, with schools including Isamwera, Igonga, Ekerubo, and Suneka, has converged at Itierio Boys High School to showcase sporting talent.
Kenyenya Sub-county has sent its competing teams to Naiga Secondary School Playground. Participating schools include St. Peter’s Keberesi, Moteiribe, Riokindo Boys, Eberege, Omobera Girls, Riokindo Girls, and St. Mary’s Nyabiore Girls.
Coaches confident of success
St. Peter’s Keberesi games teacher Dennis Otongo expressed confidence that his football team will progress to the county level and beyond, citing the support of Principal Lukas Maburi.
Nyamache and Sameta sub-counties are continuing their competitions at Nyamache Stadium, Nyabite Secondary School, and Sameta Public Playground, respectively.
Call for discipline and unity
Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir has called for discipline and sanity throughout the sports season.

He urged teachers to use the sports meetings to build relationships and collaborate in promoting sporting talent among young people while advancing peace and unity in the country.
