Kenya Red Cross has intensified psychosocial care and recovery support for families, students, and staff affected by the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Senior School in Gilgil, Nakuru County, as the focus shifts from rescue operations to healing and recovery.

The humanitarian agency says its teams remain on the ground providing structured emotional and psychological support to help those affected cope with shock, grief, and trauma following the incident that has left the nation in mourning.

With rescue operations now concluded, the organisation is prioritising psychosocial support services, where trained counsellors are engaging learners, parents, and school staff in sessions aimed at restoring emotional stability and supporting recovery in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Kenya Red Cross is also continuing with family tracing and reunification services, assisting relatives in accessing verified information and reconnecting with their loved ones through coordination with hospitals and relevant authorities.

The agency noted that its response teams are working closely with government agencies, health facilities, and school administrators to ensure families receive consistent updates and sustained humanitarian assistance during this difficult period.

While emergency rescue efforts have ended, the organisation emphasized that the emotional impact of such disasters often lasts much longer, making continued psychosocial care essential for both survivors and bereaved families.
