Uhuru, Kindiki join nation in mourning learners killed in Utumishi Girls fire tragedy

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta during a past meeting in Kiambu. He has sent his condolences following the Utumishi Girls Academy fire tragedy.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed deep condolences to families who lost their loved ones in the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, sharing his grief in a message posted on his Facebook page.

“I join the nation in mourning with the families who have lost their loved ones in the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil. My heart goes out to the parents, guardians, students, teachers, and the entire school community during this painful time,” said Kenyatta in his Facebook post.

The former Head of State offered prayers for the bereaved families, asking for comfort and strength as they navigate the painful loss. He also prayed for peace for the victims, a swift recovery for the injured, and resilience for everyone affected by the tragedy.

“I pray for God’s comfort and strength for every family bearing this heavy loss. May God grant eternal peace to those we have lost, comfort to those mourning, a swift recovery to the injured, and courage to all affected in the days ahead,” the Facebook post reads in part.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also took to X to express his condolences to the grieving parents and the nation.

“Learnt with deep shock and profound sorrow that we have lost 16 girls of Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil while scores of others have been injured in a fire tragedy at the school,” reads part of the DP’s X post.

He conveyed his condolences to the families and assured them of the government’s solidarity and commitment to helping the school community come to terms with the tragedy.

“Condolences to the bereaved families and quick recovery to the injured. The Government stands with all those affected and is committed to supporting the school community as they come to terms with this tragedy,” the X post reads in part.

Following the tragedy, the school has been closed indefinitely as authorities continue with investigations into the incident.
