Grief and sorrow on Wednesday, May 27, engulfed Ndonyo Secondary School and Kebabe Village in Etago Sub-county as family, friends, teachers, and students gathered to bury Patrick Ratumo, a Form Four student who died in a tragic road accident along the Eberege–Nyagancha road.
The 19-year-old student lost his life after a boda boda reportedly lost control, killing him instantly. His sudden death has left the school community devastated, with many describing him as a disciplined and hardworking student whose future was full of promise.
Emotions ran high during the burial ceremony held on Wednesday at Kebabe Village, as students from Ndonyo Secondary School broke down in tears while paying their final respects to their classmate. Teachers and fellow students remembered Ratumo as a humble and determined young man who was dedicated to his studies and maintained good relations with those around him.
The tragedy came barely a week after the school held its Education and Prize Giving Day ceremony, an occasion meant to celebrate academic excellence and student achievement. His absence during the event was deeply felt by classmates and teachers.
