Kisii County Term Two Secondary School Games begin in earnest at Nyanchwa Grounds

Kisii County Term Two secondary school games at Nyanchwa Grounds, where schools are showcasing talent, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Kisii County secondary schools have started their Term Two sports meet in earnest, and the atmosphere across the county is alive with energy, rivalry, and school pride.

After weeks of preparation during the short break, students returned to the fields and tracks ready to showcase their talent and discipline in athletics, football, volleyball, and other games.

The event is more than just competition; it is a celebration of youth talent, teamwork, and the role of sports in building character among learners.

The official opening matches were hosted at Nyanchwa playgrounds, which have become a central venue for inter-school fixtures in Kisii County. From early morning, schools arrived in full kit, accompanied by cheering students, teachers, and local fans. The air was filled with drums, chants, and the sound of whistles as teams warmed up and strategized for the day ahead.

One of the most talked-about matches of the day was the football clash between Boronyi Secondary School and Kisii School. Kisii School came into the game in strong form and with tight coordination, having trained rigorously throughout the term. According to games teacher Dennis Omwansa, their success is not about showmanship but the result of calculated and painstaking training backed by the school administration. He credited the steady support from Principal Fred Mogaka, a perennial supporter of both sports and academics, for creating an environment where students can excel in both areas.

On the pitch, that preparation was evident. From the first whistle, Kisii School controlled possession and pressed high, denying Boronyi time to settle. By halftime, the score already reflected their dominance. In the second half, Kisii School maintained their intensity and tactical discipline, scoring repeatedly through well-executed passes and clinical finishing. The match ended 10-0 in favour of Kisii School.

For Boronyi Secondary School, the loss did not come with regret. Team captain Hesborn Oyaro said the boys faced their giant rivals gallantly, even though they were outmatched in equipment. While Kisii School players took to the field in modern playing boots, the Boronyi players completed the game barefoot. Their goal was to complete the match and honour the spirit of the game, not merely to compete against a better-equipped side.

The result has sparked conversations across the county about training standards, resources, and the growing gap between some schools. For Kisii School, the victory is a statement of intent as they aim for the county finals and a chance at regional representation. For Boronyi, it is a moment to regroup, analyse weaknesses, and return stronger in the next fixtures. Coaches from both sides acknowledged that such matches, whether won or lost, are valuable for student growth and for identifying talent that can represent Kisii County at higher levels.

Beyond the scoreline, the Term Two sports meet is achieving its purpose of keeping students engaged, promoting physical health, and fostering unity among schools. Events such as long-distance races, javelin, and volleyball have also attracted impressive participation, with several athletes setting personal bests.
