Bungoma teachers mourn St Cecilia Misikhu Girls deputy principal as police probe his mysterious death

The education fraternity in Bungoma County is mourning the sudden death of Caleb Wekesa Nakhisa, a deputy principal at St Cecilia Misikhu Girls Senior School, whose death is now under police investigation following an incident in Webuye town.

Nakhisa reportedly fell ill moments after checking into a hotel on the night of May 23, 2026, after attending a school-related function.

According to a police report lodged at Webuye Police Station under Occurrence Book (OB) No. 02/24/05/2026, investigators are treating the matter as a suspicious death pending completion of investigations and a postmortem examination.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the deceased spent part of the evening in the company of a 28-year-old woman at entertainment spots within Webuye town before the two later booked a room at Satellite Hotel.

Investigators said statements recorded from the woman and hotel employees indicate that the pair met at an entertainment joint in Webuye before proceeding to another club later in the evening.

Police reports further state that at around 0020 am on May 24, Nakhisa reportedly developed medical complications while inside the hotel room.

The woman is said to have alerted hotel management, who responded and found the deputy principal in distress. He was rushed to a health facility in Webuye before being referred to Webuye Sub-County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Officers from Matulo Police Post and detectives attached to the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office visited the scene and commenced investigations.

Police confirmed that the woman is currently being held to assist detectives with ongoing inquiries. Authorities, however, emphasized that investigations are still at an early stage and no conclusion has been reached regarding the cause of death.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the education sector in Bungoma County, with colleagues and friends describing Nakhisa as a dedicated teacher and administrator who was committed to academic progress and student mentorship.

Teachers who spoke to the press called for patience and restraint as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police urged members of the public to avoid speculation and allow due process as detectives continue gathering statements and forensic evidence linked to the case.
