Obera Boys Secondary School in Ndhiwa sub-county, Homa Bay County is facing possible disqualification from the ongoing 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) championships despite having progressed to the East Zone semi-finals.
The development comes after a routine digital player verification exercise revealed that some of the school’s players could not be traced in the official KSSSA registration portal, raising questions over their eligibility.
KSSSA has in recent seasons tightened its regulations through the introduction of a centralized digital registration and verification system.
The system is designed to curb cases of teams fielding unregistered or ineligible players, a problem that has previously affected fairness in school competitions.
According to officials overseeing the verification process, schools are required to ensure that all participating players are properly uploaded and verified in the national portal before being cleared to compete.
Any discrepancies between team lists and the official database may lead to sanctions, including match forfeiture or disqualification.

Obera Boys, which had impressed in earlier rounds to reach the semi-final stage, now await a final ruling as investigations continue.
The decision will be communicated once the verification committee concludes its review of registration records and team compliance documents.
The case has generated tension within the competition, as schools watch closely how strict enforcement of the digital system will affect results already recorded on the field.
KSSSA officials have maintained that integrity in school sports remains a top priority, emphasizing that adherence to registration rules is non-negotiable in all regional and national competitions.
An official verdict is expected to be communicated soon.
