Learners at Sergoit Comprehensive School in Kamariny Ward, Elgeyo Marakwet County, are set to benefit from improved learning facilities following the commissioning of a new 10-classroom tuition block.
The project, fully funded through NG-CDF Keiyo North, is expected to ease classroom congestion, improve the learning environment, and expand access to quality education for learners in the area.
Speaking during the event, Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai described the new tuition block as a major milestone in strengthening education infrastructure within the constituency.
“The new classrooms will provide a better learning environment and enhance access to quality education for learners in this area,” said Mr Adams Kipsanai.
He noted that the National Government Constituencies Development Fund continues to play a critical role in transforming schools at the grassroots through infrastructure development and bursary support for vulnerable learners.
“The National Government Constituencies Development Fund has revolutionized access to quality education at the grassroots through the development of education infrastructure and bursaries for needy students,” he said.
Mr Adams Kipsanai further challenged parents and community members to prioritize education and ensure children remain in school.
“I urge parents to ensure that every child is given an opportunity to pursue their dreams through education. Together, we can build a knowledgeable and responsible generation for the future of our nation,” he added.
The legislator noted that investment in education remains one of the most effective ways of empowering communities and reducing poverty levels.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting schools within Keiyo North Constituency through additional classroom construction, provision of learning materials, and bursary programmes targeting bright but needy students.
Discipline and safe schools
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen commended the project, describing it as a clear demonstration of prudent utilization of public resources for the benefit of local communities.
“I commend Adams Kipsanai, the Constituency NG-CDF Committee, and the school management for prudently utilizing NG-CDF to build a modern and magnificent tuition block,” said Mr Kipchumba Murkomen.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasized that quality infrastructure is essential in promoting academic excellence and creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
“Improved infrastructure plays a critical role in enhancing academic performance and motivating learners to remain focused on their education,” he said.

Mr Kipchumba Murkomen also urged parents to take a more active role in monitoring the academic progress and discipline of their children.
“Parents must closely follow the education journey of their children and work closely with teachers to ensure learners remain disciplined and focused,” he said.
At the same time, the Cabinet Secretary directed National Government Administrative Officers to collaborate with school administrators and local communities in safeguarding schools from drug and alcohol abuse.
“We must work together to ensure our schools remain safe environments free from drugs and alcohol because these vices destroy the future of our young people,” Mr Kipchumba Murkomen added.
School community
School administrators welcomed the new facility, saying it will significantly improve learning conditions and support the growing student population at the institution.
Teachers noted that inadequate classroom space had previously posed challenges in lesson delivery and learner concentration, especially during peak enrolment periods.
Parents and residents who attended the commissioning ceremony lauded the project as a major boost to education standards in the region.
“This is a great achievement for our children and the entire community because better classrooms mean a better future for learners,” said one parent during the event.
The celebrations also marked the school’s 70th anniversary, with leaders praising the institution for its contribution to academic growth and community development over the decades.
Education stakeholders at the event called for continued investment in schools through partnerships between government agencies, local leaders, and communities to improve access to quality education across the county.
The commissioning ceremony attracted hundreds of learners, alumni, teachers, and residents who described the new tuition block as a symbol of progress and commitment towards empowering future generations through education.
