CS Murkomen urges parents to monitor learners as schools fight drugs and unrest

CS for Security Kipchumba Murkomen, flanked by Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai, commissions a new administration block at Sergoit Comprehensive School.

Parents have been urged to take an active role in tracking their children’s academic progress and ensuring schools remain free from drugs and alcohol.

The call was made by CS for Security Kipchumba Murkomen during the commissioning of a new tuition block at Sergoit Comprehensive School in Kamariny Ward, Elgeyo Marakwet County. The event coincided with the school’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

Murkomen at the same time underscored the vital role the Constituencies Development Fund has played in improving educational institutions and enhancing academic standards. He called for what he termed as revolutionising the fund to support access to quality education.

“The National Government Constituencies Development Fund has revolutionized access to quality education at the grassroots through the development of education infrastructure and bursaries for needy students,” the CS said while addressing learners, community members, and leaders.

The CS used the occasion to raise concern over the increasing use of drugs and substances among students in the region, attributing it to the recent spate of student unrests that rocked learning institutions.

He directed National Government Administration Officers to work closely with school administrators to keep learning institutions free from drugs and alcohol. He also called on parents to play a leading role in monitoring the academic progress of their children.

The CS commended Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai, the Constituency NG-CDF Committee, and the school’s management for “prudently utilizing NG-CDF to build a modern and magnificent tuition block.”

The ceremony was attended by Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea, Senator William Kisang, County MP Caroline Ng’elechei, Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai, Moiben MP Prof. Phyllis Bartoo, and MCAs led by Speaker Lawi Kibire.
