Bomet Central Member of Parliament (MP) Richard Kilel has announced plans to push for full school fees support for learners in day secondary schools through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Speaking during the launch of Koiyet bridge,Mutarakwa ward in Bomet Central constituency on Friday, Kilel said many parents are still struggling to keep their children in school due to financial challenges despite the existence of government capitation.
The MP said his office is exploring ways of ensuring that learners in day schools have their fees fully paid to reduce the burden on parents and improve school attendance.
Kilel defended the current bursary distribution programme in the constituency, saying the funds have been shared fairly and transparently at the grassroots level.
He maintained that needy learners have continued to benefit from the NG-CDF bursary programme and assured residents that education remains one of his key priorities.

The legislator also revealed that the construction of Bomet High School is expected to be completed by August this year.
According to Kilel, President William Ruto is expected to officially commission the institution once construction works are complete and will also provide the school with a school bus.
He further disclosed that plans are underway to drill a borehole at the school to improve water supply for learners and staff.
At the same time, the MP warned school principals, Heads of Institutions (HOIs) and Boards of Management (BOMs) against mismanagement of school resources.
Kilel cautioned education administrators against misuse of public funds, saying strict accountability must be maintained to protect learning institutions and ensure resources directly benefit students.
