Nurture learners’ talents early, West Pokot Education Director urges school heads

Teachers in West Pokot County have been urged to help learners nurture their talents at an early stage.

The remarks were made by the West Pokot County Director of Education, Mr. Yobes Magara, during a meeting of Heads of Institutions (HOIs) from West Pokot and Pokot South sub-counties held at Chepaipai Hall in Nasokol Girls Secondary School.

Mr. Magara also asked the HOIs to ensure smooth implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system in their respective schools, noting that it promotes learners’ talents.

“As we know these days, talents do pay and improve the social and economic living standards of performers,” he said.

He added that participation in co-curricular activities helps learners improve both their physical and mental health.

Magara further praised the Quality Assurance and Standards Officers for their assessments, noting that they help ensure efficiency in schools.

Philemon Rop the West Pokot Sub-County Quality Assurance and Standards Officer, urged the HOIs to take charge of their schools by ensuring good leadership and management, proper curriculum organization and implementation, efficient learner welfare, positive community involvement in school matters, and quality physical infrastructure.

Amos Kibet, the West Pokot Sub-County Director of Education, urged all stakeholders in education, including BoM members, HOIs, and teachers, to play their respective roles effectively.

He also asked the HOIs to provide accurate data during report submissions and to operate their institutions in accordance with their school registration certificates.

In addition, Kibet urged the HOIs to ensure that schools have clean water for learners’ use and maintain high standards of hygiene.

Mary Ngolengor, the Pokot South Sub-County Director of Education, also urged the HOIs to fully take charge of their institutions to enhance efficiency.
