More than Sh700 billion has been allocated to the education sector by the Kenya Kwanza government to strengthen learning institutions, expand infrastructure, and support the implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE) nationwide.
Speaking during a Thanksgiving ceremony at Kapkoiga Girls Secondary School in Kesses Sub-county, Uasin Gishu County, Basic Education Principal Secretary Prof. Julius Bitok said the government, under President William Samoei Ruto, considers education the greatest equaliser and a key pillar in transforming the country’s economy and empowering young people.
Prof. Bitok said the government has focused on Competency-Based Education to equip learners with practical skills, creativity, innovation, and knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
He noted that the administration is also investing heavily in expanding classrooms, laboratories, and other school infrastructure to ensure institutions are adequately prepared to support the transition and the growing student population under the new curriculum.
The PS emphasised that the reforms aim to produce graduates who are ready for the job market and capable of driving the country’s industrial and technological growth.
The Thanksgiving ceremony was attended by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, alongside Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, Kesses MP Julius Rutto, Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma, and Soy MP David Kiplagat, among other leaders.
Parents, teachers, students, and members of the local community also attended the event, which celebrated the school’s achievements and highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in improving educational standards.
