The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisumu Executive Secretary, George Osura has urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to exercise caution when transferring tutors and school heads from one learning institution to another.
Osura, said school principals should not be transferred immediately after schools reopen.
Speaking in Kisumu, the unionist noted that such transfers should instead be effected while schools are closed to ensure smooth transitions and continuity in learning.
He added that the same consideration should apply to teachers and schools affected by the transfers.
Osura was reacting to an incident at St Mark Obambo Secondary School, where students reportedly went on the rampage after the abrupt transfer of the school principal.
According to Osura, education stakeholders should be consulted before such decisions are implemented.

He further said principals nearing retirement should be allowed to decide whether they are willing to be transferred or remain in their current stations.
Following the transfer, students marched from the school to Ojola Trading Centre demanding an audience with education officials.
At the same time, the school’s board of management has vowed to block the incoming principal from reporting to the institution.
It has also emerged that the board has moved to court seeking orders to stop the transfer until the case is heard and determined.
Meanwhile, Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu condemned TSC County Director Timon Oyucho for allegedly ignoring calls to spare senior principal Peter Wao from the transfer.
