Efforts to improve access to education in Nambale Constituency received a major boost after area Member of Parliament (MP) Geoffrey Mulanya unveiled a record Ksh 51 million allocation for National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursaries aimed at supporting needy students across the constituency.

Speaking at St. Anne’s Kisoko Girls High School during the issuance of bursary cheques to students from Nambale Township and Bukhayo Central wards, Mulanya said the increased allocation underscores his commitment to ensuring that every child has access to education regardless of their financial background.

The MP noted that education remains one of the most powerful tools in transforming communities and creating opportunities for young people.

“We have this year made history by allocating a record Ksh 51 million towards NG-CDF bursaries. This significant increase is aimed at ensuring that no deserving student is left behind due to lack of school fees,” said Mulanya.

The bursary issuance exercise attracted parents, students and education stakeholders, with many describing the initiative as timely and impactful at a time when many families are struggling to meet rising education costs.

The law maker said the bursary programme is intended to strengthen school retention and enable learners to pursue their studies without interruptions caused by fees arrears.

He emphasized that investing in education is key to securing a brighter future for the constituency and empowering the next generation.

The legislator further challenged students benefiting from the programme to remain disciplined, focused and committed to academic excellence.

“As we roll out the bursary programme to other wards, I encourage all beneficiaries to remain disciplined and focused on their studies. Education is the foundation of progress, and through such initiatives, we are securing a better future for our constituency,” he added.

Parents who attended the event lauded the initiative, saying the bursaries will ease the burden of school fees and help many students remain in school.

Several speakers also welcomed the increased allocation, noting that financial support plays a critical role in improving transition and retention rates in schools.

The bursary distribution exercise is expected to continue in other wards across Nambale Constituency as more learners benefit from the NG-CDF education support programme.

The record allocation now places Nambale among constituencies making significant investments in education through bursary support, with local leaders expressing optimism that the initiative will contribute to improved academic outcomes and increased access to learning opportunities.
